This position serves as a research scientist at The Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) which manages research, development, testing and evaluation (RDT&E) efforts for the Army related to forensics and biometrics. The position is located at the Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC) near Atlanta.
Tasking includes but not limited to:
• Supporting high-impact, complex, multi-discipline internal forensic and biometric research at DFSC by carrying out research and mentoring others. Supports similarly complex external research carried out under contracts and cooperative agreements through monitoring, and advising external research performers. Both internal and external research impacts DoD law enforcement, force protection, and intelligence missions.
• Facilitating and developing partnerships with federal agencies, national and defense laboratories, and academic institutions to enhance research collaborations.
• Acting as a liaison to DFSC examination units (i.e. a range of forensic disciplines), federal partners, national laboratories, and academic institutions.
• Supporting the acquisition cycle process, including leading external and internal peer-review panels, assessing the merit of research proposals, assessing budgetary costs, communicating with senior leadership, providing funding recommendations, generating statement of work contracts, evaluating contracts prior to execution, and assessing performance at the completion of projects.
Masters in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field, with at least 2 years related job experience in areas such as, but not limited to, forensic and biometrics research and analysis, analytic instrument assessments / validation, forensic analysis. A PhD in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field is highly preferred. Prior experience working in a government research laboratory carrying out and / or managing research is preferred.
Security Clearance: Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance.
